Man United ready to open Bruno Fernandes talks – sources

Man United will hold talks over a new Bruno Fernandes contract when he returns from the European Championships.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that interest in Fernandes has emerged from Saudi Arabia, but he remains happy at Man United.

Sources say the attacking midfielder, 29, is keen for the club to match his ambitions, wants to see improvements made on the pitch, and wants to be part of those plans.

After the decision to keep Erik ten Hag at the club following the FA Cup victory, United will now look to forge ahead with new contract talks and transfer plans.

Bruno Fernandes set for Man United contract talks

Fernandes joined Man United for a fee rising to £68million in 2020 and has since made 233 appearances for the club, lifting an FA Cup and a League Cup in the last two years under Ten Hag.

During that time, the club captain has scored 79 goals and provided 66 assists, with 15 and 13 respectively coming last season.

The club are prioritising a new deal as his current contract is set to expire in 2026, with the option of a 12-month extension.

With Fernandes demanding improvements be made on the pitch, he will be keen to see improvements made to the squad while he is away with Portugal.

Football Insider revealed on 3 June that a “surprise” move away from Old Trafford was unlikely to take place this summer despite links to Bayern Munich.

Ten Hag sees Fernandes as a crucial member of his squad and will now want to keep him onside after his United future was resolved.
