Man United ready to sell Casemiro after new £47m reveal – sources

Man United are ready to get rid of defensive midfielder Casemiro in the upcoming summer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old turned in yet another poor display in Sunday’s (21 April) FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City.

He missed his shoot-out penalty and was run ragged at times in an unfamiliar centre-back role.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that United now feel Casemiro is unsuited to their side and are ready to consider offers for his services in the summer.

Sources say the Red Devils are extremely keen to get his huge wages off the books at Old Trafford.

According to Capology, Casemiro earns a weekly wage of £450,000-a-week including bonuses – meaning he could earn almost £47million in the final two years of his contract.

Despite United’s willingness to let the midfielder depart this summer, it is believed European sides are not likely to be able to match his wage demands.

Therefore, if the five-time Champions League winner is to leave – it will likely be to the Saudi Pro League, where former Real Madrid teammates Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo are currently playing.

Casemiro has made 26 appearances across all competitions this term, with all but one of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.

He has drawn criticism from fans and pundits alike for his lack of mobility this season.

Man United also have Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat on the books at Old Trafford, while wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo has made an impressive breakthrough in the 2023-24 campaign.
