‘Man United return update after Jadon Sancho strike in Chelsea’s European win’

Chelsea look to be close to making a decision over the future of Man United loanee Jadon Sancho ahead of the summer transfer window.

The winger made a temporary move to Stamford Bridge in last summer’s market, with the potential to make that switch permanent if certain conditions were met.

Sancho departed Man United after falling out with their then-manager Erik ten Hag, which had seen him exiled at Old Trafford.

But although Chelsea ended their season on a high, it appears as if the England international could soon be on his way back to the Red Devils.

Chelsea to pay penalty to Man United

After qualifying for the Champions League on the final day of the Premier League season, the Blues then finished their campaign in style on Wednesday (28 May).

Chelsea beat Real Betis 4-1 in the UEFA Conference League final to ensure they ended the season with their first trophy in four years.

Sancho played his part in that by scoring a stunning third goal for Enzo Maresca’s side which all but sealed that victory.

Even so, it has been a mixed campaign at Stamford Bridge for the 25-year-old. As a result, The Guardian have now reported that, as Chelsea close in on a deal for Ipswich striker Liam Delap, the indications are they will not take up their option to buy Sancho for £25million.

As a result, the Blues are set to pay a £5m penalty fee to Man United in order to return Sancho to Old Trafford.

Maresca is said to be a fan of the winger, but has been forced to weigh up whether the winger has been consistent enough during his time with the club, amid interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens as an alternative.

Jadon Sancho to be on the move again

Football Insider Verdict

Even if Chelsea do pay that penalty to send Sancho back this summer, it is hard to imagine that he will be at Old Trafford for long.

It has long since been clear that what is now Ruben Amorim‘s side need a significant squad overhaul in the summer.

Even before his exile and loan to Chelsea, the winger had struggled to make a major impact for the Red Devils.

As a result, Football Insider previously reported Man United will look to sell Sancho this summer even if the Blues do not sign him permanent.

That does make sense for those at Old Trafford, given it makes space in the squad for the new signings they need, and the funds it could raise to help finance such deals.

For Sancho, this means he is facing another summer of uncertainty, which will be frustrating for him as he aims to find somewhere to settle and finally unlock the full potential of his career.
