Kieran Maguire: Man United have done ‘incredibly well’ after £20m deal agreed this week

Man United have done “incredibly well” to seal a new training kit sponsor deal with Tezos worth £20million per season.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ latest commercial success.

The Athletic reported yesterday (3 February) that blockchain platform Tezos will pay United a £20m annual fee for the partnership.

Tezos take over from American insurance provider Aon, whose contract ended at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

The new deal represents United’s first venture into the blockchain space.

The majority of clubs in the Premier League have now signed some form of partnership with a cryptocurrency, NFT, or blockchain tech firm.

Maguire hailed the value of the deal and argues that it is no surprise to see United hop on the blockchain gravy train.

“We are seeing quite a few of the senior clubs go for these deals,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Everyone sees revenue opportunities with crypto, blockchain, NFTs. That is a new market.

For the kit deal, £20m per year is fantastic. That is more than everyone in the Premier League bar the big six is getting for front of shirt advertising.

“That reflects the value of the brand and they have done incredibly well there.”

The exact length of the Tezos deal is unspecified but the Aon contract was worth £120m over its eight-year lifespan.

United also embarked on a new front-of-shirt sponsor deal with TeamViewer at the beginning of the campaign.
