Man United news: Kieran Maguire baffled by ‘dumb’ laws that are affecting team’s performance

Man United deserve credit for their attempt to aid colour blind fans – but the authorities need to change their “dumb” rules to do their bit.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the experiences of colour blind supporters.

United worse white socks instead of their traditional black during the humiliating Fa Cup defeat to Middlesbrough last Friday (4 February).

As relayed by The Sun last Tuesday (1 February), the decision was made to avoid potential issues for colour blind fans.

Boro only had red or green socks available, so United opted for white in order to increase the visual contrast.

Maguire, who is colour blind, insisted that making small changes will benefit both fans and players.

“Being colour blind doesn’t stop anybody from enjoying football, but it makes it more difficult,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“United have done all they can and they should be given credit for that. Really, you have to question why Boro have two kits that are red and green.

“It’s indicative of a broader issue. Football clubs spend millions on analytics, private chefs and wellness training to get them in peak position to perform.

“But one in 12 men are colourblind, so there are going to be a significant number of players who are as well.

“If it takes you a fraction of a second to identify a teammate, that’s going to impact on performance.

“It’s such a cheap and easy win to wear distinguishable shirts. It’s the clubs that are losing out. It’s just dumb.

“This will help a little bit and that’s good but it isn’t addressing the overall problem. But it isn’t United’s responsibility to do that, it’s authorities’.”

United are next in action against Burnley tomorrow (8 February).

Ralf Rangnick’s are 4th in the Premier League table.
