Man United scouts closely watching Matheus Cunha – Insider

Man United have identified Matheus Cunha as a target to add to Ruben Amorim’s forward line, according to the club’s former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that United’s scouts have been keeping a close eye on his performances.

Cunha, 25, has enjoyed an excellent start to the season despite his side’s struggles and has picked up seven goals and three assists in 12 games so far.

Brown told Football Insider in the wake of the 1-1 draw with Ipswich that Ruben Amorim is prioritising a move to sign a new forward to improve their quality going forward.

Now, he has revealed that Cunha is seen as the ideal candidate for the role given his ability to play either as a lone striker or as one of two creators behind the starting number nine.

On top of this, the Brazilian’s pace, quality in possession and ability to press make him a perfect fit for the system the new boss has begun to implement.

However, Wolves are reluctant to let their star man leave mid-way through the season and are more likely to entertain talks in the summer.

Man United plotting move to sign Wolves star Matheus Cunha

Brown told Football Insider in October that “top clubs” were tracking the Brazilian as a cut-price deal could be on the cards.

Now, the former United scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also spent time with Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, has insisted that United will continue to track his progress over the course of season.

He’s a very, very good player,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s not just a one trick pony, he’s got a lot of assets to his game and he’s majorly important to Wolves.

“So whatever happens, Wolves won’t be entertaining talks in January.

“But I’m told Man United have had scouts watching him and he’s certainly one they’re interested in.

“They’ll be putting together a list of names to improve Amorim’s side, and he’s going to be one of the names on that list after the way he’s started the season.

“I think he fits the system perfectly. He can press, he’s quick, his passing and creativity is very good, and he can play through the middle and score goals too.

Wolves

“So yes, they’re looking at him and he’s one they’d like to bring in. Whether it’s going to be possible or not I don’t know, because Wolves won’t want to see him leave.”

In other news, Ruben Amorim has made an important Joshua Zirkzee decision.
