‘Man United set sights on second Wolves star’ after Matheus Cunha deal is done

Man United are closing in on announcing their move for Wolves star Matheus Cunha, with the forward appearing to confirm his departure from Molineux.

Football Insider revealed Cunha’s £62.5million release clause will be paid in three installments after terms of a deal were agreed, allowing for spending elsewhere at Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils will face an uphill battle in the transfer market after failing to secure any type of European football for the 2025-26 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (24 May) that Bruno Fernandes could be the first of six first-team players to leave Man United this summer as Ruben Amorim plots a rebuild.

United have been linked with another Wolves star as Amorim sets his sights on a turnaround.

Semedo could reunite with Cunha at Man United

According to Football Transfers (26 May), United have shown interest in bringing right-back Nelson Semedo to Old Trafford this summer.

The right-back is set to leave Wolves as a free agent when his contract expires on 30 June.

Semedo, 31, waved goodbye to the Molineux faithful at the final home game of the season – despite the report claiming he was offered a “four-year contract extension” in the Midlands.

The ex-Barcelona star has also been linked with a return to Benfica, where he started his career.

Wolves paid around £37million after add-ons to land Semedo in 2020 and he played 182 times for the club – also wearing the armband this season.

Amorim to land perfect wing-back?

Football Insider Verdict

Semedo is no stranger to playing as a wing-back having done so regularly at Wolves and under manager Vitor Pereira this season.

Amorim has struggled to implement his unusual brand of football at Man United and will be desperate to bring suitable new faces into Old Trafford this summer.

The Wolves skipper may be 31 but could be a valuable, Premier League proven, free signing for a club struggling to fund their much-needed transfer business this summer.

Benfica look set to put up the strongest competition and Semedo could value the chance to return to his roots, but the allure of Man United cannot be discounted – even after their struggles this season.
