‘Man United set sights on summer windfall as seven-figure deal confirmed’

Man United have confirmed they will jet out to Malaysia and Hong Kong following the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils will play in Kuala Lumpur on 28 May – just three days after the end of the Premier League season.

United may also have a Europa League final to fit into that schedule – with the Bilbao showpiece scheduled for 21 May.

The club, who have struggled to turn a profit in recent seasons, have pencilled in a tour of the United States as part of their pre-season preparations.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted United will set their sights on earning far more than the confirmed £8million fee they are being paid for the post-season games next month.

Man United tour is ‘very important’ for PSR, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed he expects United to use their “well-oiled marketing machine” to raise much-needed funds.

The Red Devils remain a big draw worldwide despite being confirmed to record their worst-ever Premier League finish under Ruben Amorim this season.

Wyness also claimed the summer windfall will be “very important” for Man United‘s Profit and Sustainability Rules situation.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “These post-season tours are taking on a huge importance for clubs now.

“Before, they were always dismissed. Back in my day, we’d say it was worth going on a tour if we got a million pounds.

“Now, you’re looking at over five, up towards ten.

“You need a well-oiled marketing machine alongside this, it’s no longer just about scheduling a couple of player appearances.

“You’ve got to go beyond the match with the fan engagement.

“United will be very keen to maximise this trip. They’ll get £8m for these games, but will want more than that.

“It’s going to be important for their PSR situation.”

Man United could cash in on Hojlund

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed (15 April) that Man United could cash in on striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer as they plan to sign an elite forward.

Hojlund, 22, is attracting interest back in the Italian Serie A – where he made his name with Atalanta.

It is believed a number nine will be the priority for Amorim‘s transfer chiefs this summer as the Portuguese boss looks to put his own stamp on the squad.
