‘Man United squeezed by rivals after exit deals for Wan-Bissaka, Hannibal and co’

Man United are faced with rivals looking to take advantage of their current financial struggles after doing recent transfer deals, according to The Telegraph.

The Red Devils have seen a number of their players, including some record transfers, thrive after leaving the club.

Scott McTominay joined Napoli in the summer, and the Scotland international has thrived in Naples, becoming a fan-favourite, scoring six times in 23 appearances in Serie A.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal Mejbri also left Old Trafford prior to this season, and while Hannibal is still finding his feet at Burnley, Wan-Bissaka has become one of the Premier League’s best right-backs.

The former Crystal Palace defender assisted Jarrod Bowen in a 1-0 win against Arsenal on Saturday (22 February, and has played his way back into contention for a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England side.

In January alone, Marcus Rashford joined Aston Villa, and Antony moved to Real Betis, and both wingers are impressing at their new clubs.

This week, the Red Devils announced their “transformation plan” which is designed to return the club to profitability, having made losses each year since 2019.

Man United have also announced another round of staff layoffs, having made over 250 staff redundant in the summer.

Clubs look to offer Man United instant cash to remove sell-on clauses

United have looked to insert clauses when selling players, such as buy-back and sell-on fees.

However, with the Red Devils in a perilous financial situation, some clubs are reportedly looking to remove those clauses by offering the Manchester club cash up-front.

For United, this may come as a blessing, with the looming presence of profit and sustainability rules (PSR), becoming an issue at Old Trafford.

The deadline for PSR figures is 30 June, and according to The Telegraph, clubs have been looking at buying the clauses immediately.

This would then allow clubs who have previously done business with the Red Devils to earn more long-term money, for their immediate outlay.

Hannibal was sold with a 50% sell-on clause, and the percentages in those kind of deals tend to be reduced over time.

Mason Greenwood has seen his market value soar since leaving United, and the French club stand to make a huge profit on his next sale, with a large portion going to United.

However, money from the sale of a player like Greenwood or Wan-Bissaka will only arrive when their club actually sells the player, giving no guarantees to United on when they will see a return from the clause.

Man United set for difficult summer rebuild under Ruben Amorim

Football Insider Verdict

It looked like United had a plan when they hired Ruben Amorim as manager, following Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

The Portuguese manager came in with a very clear tactical philosophy, and the need for a total squad overhaul to make his system work.

However, with news of United’s horrendous financial situation, the club may no longer be capable of transforming the team in the way Amorim needs to.

Man United may only have the ability to spend £20-30million in the summer, as they look to work within their financial limitations.
