Man United news: Medical expert issues fears after Luke Shaw surgery news

It will not be a “quick fix” if Man United star Luke Shaw has an underlying issue relating to his broken leg back in 2015.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Shaw, now 26, was sidelined for 11 months after a horrific double leg fracture seven years ago.

The left-back has recently complained of discomfort around the operation site where he had two screws fixed to aid his recovery.

As quoted by the Daily Mail last Friday (8 April), interim United boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed that Shaw will undergo surgery to remove the bolts.

Dinnery is broadly optimistic about the procedure but explained that, if a more serious issue is discovered, it could be a long road back for Shaw.

“Once the decision has been made, there shouldn’t be any serious implications,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“The union of the bone shouldn’t be an issue. Those screws were initially used to help that fusion, but that was many years ago.

“The hope is that once you remove that, we see a Luke Shaw who is uninhibited and can see out the season.

“There is a possibility that there is still a problem in and around that area once those screws are removed, however.

“It shouldn’t be an issue, but you keep your fingers crossed.

“If there is still a problem there, it would need to be addressed. That wouldn’t be a quick fix.”

Shaw has supplied five assists in 27 appearances this term.

It is unclear how long he will be out of action following surgery.
