Man United takeover: Finance expert drops verdict on ‘big bid from Qatar’

Man United’s asking price for anybody interested in buying the club may be a significant hurdle to overcome.

That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley who has exclusively told Football Insider what price he believes the Glazers are asking for to sell their shares in the club.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has increased his stake in Man United, and has supported manager Ruben Amorim despite the clubs lack of success on the pitch.

The Red Devils’ revenue has been hit this season due to no European football, following defeat to Spurs in the Europa League final at the end of last season.

Glazers asking price named to sell shares

Any interested party looking to buy Man United may have to stump up a large amount of cash, as speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley reveals the price the Glazers may sell at.

I think it’s unlikely [a takeover] will be how its played out, when Ratcliffe came in we saw how that played out,” Plumley said.

A big bid from Qatar we were led to believe that was full takeover and it wasn’t at the price that the Glazers wanted.

I’ve always suggested that they are after a higher price for their exit which is certainly more than £5billion, there’s been rumours that they want £10billion in the future to exit.

With football clubs though we say it all the time they’re really for sale, if the right offer comes in then people will listen.”

Glazers open to sale on one condition

The Glazers have stated they would be open to a Man United sale but only on the condition that the clubs stadium plans make significant progress.

Man United want to build a 100,000 seater stadium to replace Old Trafford, which would generate greater revenue for the club and make it the biggest capacity football stadia in the UK.

The Glazers currently own 69% of Man United, meaning they still have plenty of control over the football club despite Ratcliffe controlling football operations.
