Finance guru: Glazers now have Man United ‘exit’ plan as ‘£10bn’ takeover on the cards

It could take up to £10billion to prise Man United away from the Glazer family.

That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news regarding a potential Red Devils takeover.

The Glazers have become pariahs at Old Trafford because of a perceived lack of ambition and investment in infrastructure recent years.

The Independent reported on Wednesday (17 August) that three consortiums are now considering a formal bid to buy the club from the American family.

The news comes with United bottom of the Premier League for the first time in over 30 years following defeats to Brighton and Brentford at the beginning of 2022-23.

Plumley claims that the Glazers will know exactly the fee it will take for them to part ways with the club.

“I think the noise around this is always likely to surface in the bad times,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“We know that fans are unhappy with the Glazers, but when you get the two performances like they have just had, everything gets heightened.

“I think the Glazers have an exit point in mind but what that might be is anyone’s guess. They have talked in the past about reaching a value of $10bn. That value is still a long way off, irrespective of how you look at it.

“Chelsea has just been sold for £4bn but that was inflated by the investment coming in. Are United anywhere near that at the moment? No. It is more likely somewhere around £1bn to £3bn.

“I think they will sell at some point but they will have a price in mind. They have never been ones to react to criticism. Whether or not they are worried about the situation, I don’t know. But they will have an exit price in mind.

“If there are potential investors, there will be a conversation to be had. But I imagine they will be tough to negotiate with in any case.”
