Man United tell first-XI duo they are free to leave – sources
Man United senior centre-backs Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof could both depart Old Trafford before the 31 August cut-off, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the futures of both defenders are up in the air going into the final six weeks of the window.
The 20-time champions confirmed the signing of Leny Yoro this week, with the 18-year-old centre-back joining from Lille.
Sources say that United are in the market for a second starting central defender this summer, leaving question marks over where that leaves Lindelof and Maguire.
There has been talk that Lindelof could leave Old Trafford, with the 30-year-old entering the final year of his contract.
It also remains to be seen what the potential arrival of two central defenders would mean for Maguire, the former club captain.
Sources have told Football Insider that United are happy for both to depart if significant offers are received.
The England international is also in the final year of his deal at the club, but he improved throughout last season and made 22 Premier League appearances.
Man United tell Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof they can go
According to sources, United are looking to build from the back this summer and improve defensively.
The focus for the Premier League giants is to try and get back into the top four, with Jim Ratcliffe having backed Erik ten Hag with a new contract and several signings already this summer.
Signing another top central defender would increase the competition at the club, especially with the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans already on the books.

Another defender who could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Football Insider revealed that West Ham have made a move for the right-back, but United would be set to make a “huge” loss on him.
