Kieran Maguire: Man United the ‘only team in Premier League’ who do this after £9m payout confirmed
Man United are the only team in the Premier League who pay a dividend because the owners are not concerned with winning trophies.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ownership model at Old Trafford.
United released their quarterly report on 17 November for the three months leading up to September.

One of the most eye-grabbing figures was the £9.4million the club paid the Glazer family in dividends, as well as the £2.5m they paid to other investors.
The club’s revenues for the same period totalled £126m, an increase on the £109m they trousered in the same quarter in 2020.
Maguire explained why almost 10 per cent of United’s revenue in the latest quarter went to their absentee landlord owners.
“Man United are the only team in the Premier League who pay dividends,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“United are slightly different because they are listed on the New York Stock Exchange and shareholders expect a payout.
“That’s not the case if the business model is aimed at winning trophies and not about financial return.

“Look at Chelsea and Man City, their owners aren’t interested in taking a dividend because their owners are independently wealthy.
“It’s all about winning. United are different because they have got many shareholders who see United purely in cash terms and not as a football club.“
