Man United three-man signing plan revealed – sources

Man United are plotting to sign a new centre-back, central midfielder and striker in the upcoming summer window, senior sources have told Football Insider.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS outfit, who have recently installed Jason Wilcox as technical director, are drawing up plans for the off-season after a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (23 April) that Wilcox and incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth want to overhaul the “spine” of the United side.

Signings in defence, midfield and attack are planned with several Red Devils stars set to depart this summer.

Sources have told Football Insider (22 April) that Man United are pushing ahead to agree an early deal with Everton for defender Jarrad Branthwaite – who is the “top target” for the club in defence.

It is believed Raphael Varane, Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans are not part of the plans for Man United going forward.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (23 April) that United have decided against keeping on-loan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat at the club permanently and will not trigger his buy option.

There is also doubt over the future of manager Erik ten Hag with the Red Devils currently sitting seventh in the Premier League table and 16 points adrift of the top four.

Ten Hag has led his side to a second consecutive FA Cup final and could bring a second trophy to Old Trafford in two years if they can beat Man City at Wembley next month.

The Dutchman has won just 15 of 32 league games this term and oversaw an unsuccessful Champions League campaign which saw them eliminated at the group stage.
