Man United tipped to move for £30m Eredivisie star after what Erik ten Hag has seen - pundit

Erik ten Hag may not trust some of his Man United players and could move for Ibrahima Sangare after his impressive debut season in the Eredivisie, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 52-year-old will have had the lowdown on his new squad from previous boss Ralf Rangnick.

According to Sky Sports (8 June), Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven midfielder Sangare this summer.

The report claims the midfielder, who only joined the Dutch giants last summer (2021), has a €35million (£30million) release clause in his contract.

Ten Hag and Man United have also been linked with moves for winger Antony and midfield star Frenkie de Jong – who both worked under the Dutchman at Ajax.

Whelan suggested the former FC Twente boss is looking for “trusted” allies as he embarks on his first season in the Premier League.

“I think the key word is trust,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“Ten Hag has probably seen enough from the Man United players to know that he can’t completely trust them all, in terms of character and performances.

“He’s probably had the lowdown on the group from Ralf Rangnick as well.

“It’s all there for everyone to see – they’ve been all over the place in the last season.

“It’s only right that a new manager comes in and goes back to the league that he’s been in for his whole career. We’ve seen it time and time again.

“It comes down to trust.

I think he doesn’t trust his players at the moment, so he’s going into the market for players he knows because he’s seen them up close and personal.”
