Man United tipped to reject £15m Dean Henderson bid after Newcastle ‘turned his head’ – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Man United will “demand more” than £15million if they are to sell Dean Henderson to Newcastle United this summer.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old may have had his “head turned” by the “special” project underway at St James’ Park.

As reported by the Northern Echo (29 May), Newcastle are set to table a £15million bid for Henderson and are confident of reaching a deal with Man United.

Newcastle

The one-time England international shot-stopper is contracted until June 2025.

Henderson, who kept 35 clean sheets in two seasons on loan at Sheffield United between 2018 and 2020, failed to appear in the Premier League during the 2021-22 season.

Hutton insisted Man United will want to receive a substantial fee if they are to part with the 25-year-old.

He told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “They’ll demand more, there’s no getting away from that for Newcastle.

“He’s a very young goalkeeper. He’s obviously got a lot to improve on, but that will come with playing games.

“He has three years left on his contract, he’s probably on a fair bit of money. Man United will want to recoup those wages and rake in a decent fee if they are to sell him.

“£15million is low, but that’s just the start of any negotiation process.

“Newcastle are going to be going through something special, though – and that could turn his head towards a permanent move.”

Current Newcastle first-choice Martin Dubravka, 33, is out of contract in June 2025.

The Slovakia international kept eight clean sheets from 26 Premier League appearances in the 2021-22 season.
