Man United tipped to swoop for Antony as £64m deal nearly agreed – pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed Man United may turn their attention to Antony when they complete a deal for Frenkie de Jong.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker suggested Erik ten Hag wants to bring in players he has worked with before.

A Man United source told Football Insider on Monday (29 June) that they were close to agreeing a “huge” £64.4million deal with Barcelona for De Jong.

Ten Hag is a big admirer of the 25-year-old as the pair worked together at Ajax before his move to Barca in the summer of 2019.

Antony signed for the Dutch giants a year later and was a smash hit under Ten Hag.

Fabrizio Romano told the United Stand on Tuesday (28 June) that the 22-year-old wants a move to Old Trafford “immediately” and United want to complete a deal.

“There was a shout that he wanted to sign Lisandro Martinez but I don’t know if that’s going to happen because Arsenal are really pushing for him,” Campbell told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs

“If I’m honest with you, there was the shout of Antony at Ajax, the winger who is very lively.

“What Ten Hag is going to do is bring in players that he knows first.

“It might be Antony, the winger, next.”

Antony still has three years left on his Ajax contract and was a key part of the side that won the Eredivisie in 2021-22.

The Brazil international scored 12 times and provided 10 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.

In other news, a finance guru has issued a “brutal” Man United transfer claim and it’s “going to upset some fans”.
