Man United to accept £40m loss on Antony sale – sources

Man United star Antony’s valuation has more than halved as a result of a calamitous two seasons at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Brazilian is unlikely to fetch anywhere near his reported initial fee of £80.75million that Man United paid Ajax in the summer of 2022.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that no clubs in Europe or the Middle East would be willing to pay even half of his incredible fee.

The Red Devils could be set for a loss in excess of £40million if they opt to sell the winger.

Antony has disappointed at Old Trafford since his mega-money move, having scored just 9 goals and providing four assists across 71 appearances in all competitions.

Man United to sell Antony at enormous loss?

Sources have told Football Insider (29 February) that manager Erik ten Hag still believes in Antony, who he brought to the club, and is adamant that he still has a place in the squad.

Despite regular criticism from pundits and Man United supporters, ten Hag has regularly defended Antony to the media.

Following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the club, major recruitment plans are in place which could see Antony sold if he does not prove his ability in the closing months of the season.

His future at Old Trafford hinges heavily on ten Hag, whose position as manager similarly hangs in the balance amid an underwhelming season.

Sources have told Football Insider (29 February) that Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is a very strong contender to replace the underpressure Dutchman.
