Man United ‘to agree Harry Amass deal soon’ with new club after Sheffield Wednesday exit

Man United are expected to agree a deal with Harry Amass’ next club quickly following his imminent return from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade and remains very well-connected there, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Stoke are now the leading contenders for his signature.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 1 January that Stoke made contact with Man United over Amass, with other Championship clubs also interested.

The 18-year-old has impressed despite his side’s struggles in the second tier, and clubs higher up the table are now keen to test his mettle.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 7 January that Sheffield Wednesday are pushing to extend Amass’ stay at Hillsborough, but now look likely to miss out.

Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday race to agree Harry Amass deal

Brown told Football Insider on 18 December that Man United are happy with Amass’ spell at Wednesday, and were open to extending his stay, but that may now have changed.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained the decision with depend on whether he will be playing regular football.

It looks like Stoke are pushing to sign Harry Amass,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s something Man United want to do quickly, because there’s no use him sitting around at Old Trafford for weeks waiting for his next club to be decided.

“Amass is a very talented young player, and the priority for him and for Man United at the moment is for him to be playing regularly as a starter.

“The decision now has to be made about whether that at Sheffield Wednesday, Stoke, or somewhere else.

“I think Stoke seem to be the front-runners at the moment, they’d like to test him out higher up the Championship with everything that’s going on at Wednesday.

“But if they can’t guarantee he’s going to be playing every week, he’s better off staying where he is and where he’s shown already he can perform.

“He doesn’t need all of that ripping up just to go somewhere where he’s going to sit on the bench.

“So as I say, it’s something they’ll want to agree quickly wherever he does go, and it’s something I’d expect to be agreed sooner rather than later.”

Ruben Amorim comments questioned after Man United sack

Man United fans slammed Amorim’s comments on Amass, as well as Toby Collyer and Chido Obi Martin, after he questioned their abilities.

The left-back has since proved his former boss wrong after he was named Wednesday’s player of the month for November, a testament to his impressive displays.

Following those frustrations and other press conference outbursts, Amorim was sacked by Man United, and the process of appointing his replacement is well underway.

Brown told Football Insider on 5 January that Fletcher is the perfect option for Man United on a short-term basis, backing him to galvanise the squad and the fans.

However, more high-profile managers are being assessed for the role, with Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner the outstanding candidate as things stand.
