Man United to sack Erik ten Hag ‘very soon’ – boardroom source

Everton’s former chief and boardroom insider Keith Wyness believes Erik ten Hag will soon be sacked by Manchester United as speculation continues around his future.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Dutch manager could be sacked by time the next international break comes around in November.

Man United have made their worst start to a league season in 35 years as they currently sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Speaking to the BBC on 4 October, Sir Jim Ratcliffe refused to answer whether he had faith in Ten Hag and admitted it will be the management team that decides his future.

The Manchester giants’ hierarchy held a meeting at the INEOS offices in Knightsbridge on Tuesday, where the 54-year-old’s future was discussed.

Old Trafford chiefs have insisted it was a regular meeting that was already planned in the diary as Ratcliffe led the talks with chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

But Wyness believes Ten Hag will soon be relieved of his duties by United following his side’s poor start to the season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s been one of the worst starts to a season under Ten Hag and that’s the reality of it.

“There have been some very interesting buys.

“Ratcliffe the other day has said ‘Well, hang on, my management team’s only been in place a short time, Dan Ashworth and Omar Berrada’.

“Well, it was Ratcliffe’s fault that it took so long to get them in place, so I don’t think that’s really something to hide behind.

“Will Ten Hag be sacked? That’s really a question we’ll know more about maybe in a few hours.

“I think he will. I think if it’s not now, it’ll be very soon.

“I think there is another international break coming up again fairly soon.

“He may last until that time, I don’t know. But I think he may go.”
