Man United fans have urged the club to push ahead with a move for Ipswich star Liam Delap after a fresh update on the potential transfer sparked excitement.
Man United are looking to bolster their attacking options this summer following an underwhelming season in front of goal.
Despite high hopes for Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, both have struggled for consistency, with the team managing just 38 league goals so far.
While Matheus Cunha remains a target for Man United, there are suggestions they won’t stop there and are keen to bring in an additional forward to strengthen their frontline.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 21 April that Man United are now leading the race for Delap, fending off interest from rivals including Chelsea and Newcastle.
Since then, another update has dropped on United’s pursuit of the Englishman, which has prompted a wave of optimism among supporters on social media.
Man United prioritise Liam Delap as top striker target
David Ornstein of The Athletic confirmed on Back Pages Tonight on Sky Sports News that Delap is United’s primary striker target ahead of the summer window.
Ornstein also revealed that the club hopes to “complete the deals [for Cunha and Delap] early in the window” and added that they want to do that “before any sales” are finalised.
Football Insider previously reported in February that both Manchester United and Chelsea were keen on Delap, with several top clubs monitoring the striker’s progress. However, the opportunity to become the main number nine at Old Trafford could prove a key factor in swaying his decision.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a standout individual campaign despite Ipswich Town’s looming relegation, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Man United face competition from Man City and Chelsea for Liam Delap
United will have stiff competition in the race for Delap, who is quickly emerging as one of the most in-demand young forwards this summer.
Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Pep Guardiola’s side should consider re-signing Delap, especially given the value of his £30 million release clause.
Newcastle, Arsenal, and Chelsea have also been linked with Delap as each side looks to strengthen their attacking ranks ahead of next season.
Still, Manchester United fans are optimistic, particularly with the club seemingly aiming to conduct their transfer business early. One supporter wrote: “Please get Delap, he’s perfect for Amorim’s system” while another added: “Get them both in right now.”
