‘Man United to step up move for Fulham star after Luke Shaw bombshell’

Man United could now accelerate their move to sign a Fulham star this summer following huge developments around Luke Shaw’s future at Old Trafford.

Man United’s 2024/25 season could not have gone much worse, with Ruben Amorim unable to help them improve any following his appointment as manager last November.

Shaw is the Red Devils’ longest-serving player after he joined the club back in 2014 from Southampton, and despite showing signs of quality over the years, his form has tailed off recently due to injury issues.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that across his 11 years at the club, United haven’t been honest about the nature of Shaw’s career-stalling injuries dating all the way back to 2015.

The 30-year-old made just 12 appearances last season after missing the first three months of the campaign with a calf injury, and The Sun (24 July) have reported that Shaw now faces a Man United exit and the injury-hit star could be gone by January.

He is believed to be aware of serious interest from Saudi clubs and is ready to listen to offers, despite having two years left on his contract, and so United could soon be ready to plot a move for a new left-back if Shaw leaves this summer.

Man United to launch Antonee Robinson offer as Shaw nears exit

Former scout Brown told Football Insider back in November that Fulham star Robinson had attracted interest from the likes of Man United and Liverpool after his excellent start to the 2024/25 season.

Robinson continued to shine in the Premier League for the Cottagers, and ended the campaign with a stellar 10 assists in 36 league appearances under Marco Silva.

The USA international was previously named Fulham’s Player of the Year for 2023/24, and Football Insider revealed in March that Fulham will only consider offers over £40million for Robinson amid continued interest from United and Liverpool following his two standout seasons at left-back.

Liverpool recently signed Milos Kerkez to solve their problems in that position, which seemingly leaves the Red Devils to have a free run at Robinson’s signature if they are willing to match Fulham’s valuation of his services.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley has told Football Insider that there is “nothing there to suggest” the Red Devils have any money problems right now, despite signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

With that said, signing Robinson should be viable and realistic with Shaw set to leave, as the 27-year-old is a clear upgrade on Patrick Dorgu and will surely be open to a move to Old Trafford given their status as a club compared to Fulham.

Man United to focus on sales after potential Robinson signing

Football Insider verdict

United could swoop to sign Robinson in the coming weeks as Shaw nears the exit door, but another relatively big money move like signing him would surely signal the end of their incoming transfer business this summer.

Amorim has a number of players at his disposal that he needs to get rid of following Marcus Rashford’s departure to join Barcelona on loan, with Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho all showing a desire to leave the club.

Two top Saudi Pro League sides are interested in signing Antony [Sky Sports] this summer, but a Betis return is looking unrealistic at this stage of the window, while former scout Brown told Football Insider in June that Sancho’s most likely destination is Saudi Arabia due to European clubs not being able to meet his wage demands.

United are ready to cut their asking price for Garnacho after struggling to drum up interest, with Chelsea tracking his availability, but none of the three look particularly likely to leave imminently despite the new season kicking off in under a month.

The Red Devils are clearly set for a busy few weeks in terms of outgoings, and if Shaw makes way soon after 11 mostly tough years at the club, then Robinson would surely be looked at as a natural replacement and would signal the end of United’s incoming business.
