‘Man United to terminate deals immediately’
Manchester United are pressing ahead with their cost-cutting measures after failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Ruben Amorim’s side were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham after Brennan Johnson grabbed the winner in Bilbao on Wednesday (21 May).
That meant Man United missed out on a place in the Champions League, with Spurs set to play in the competition instead next season.
The final was the Premier League duo’s last opportunity to qualify for European football as United sit 16th in the top-flight table and Tottenham are 17th heading into the last game of the season.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider United could face a £125million swing in revenue after missing out on Europe.
The club sent a letter to fan groups in January warning them they are at risk of breaking the profit and sustainability rules (PSR), with top-flight sides only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.
United posted a club-record revenue of £661.8million in 2023-24, but they recorded a net loss of £113.2million.

Jim Ratcliffe slammed after controversial Man United move
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has come under fire as he looks to cut costs at Old Trafford, having taken over the footballing operations last year.
Ratcliffe made 250 members of United’s staff redundant last summer in a bid to “return the club to profitability”.
Chief executive Omar Berrada informed staff in February more redundancies were on the way at Old Trafford.
The Mail reported on 23 May United have now begun the process of telling staff they have lost their jobs, just hours after their Europa League final defeat.
The newspaper claims sources have expressed “surprise” at the timing of the move.
Position | Club | GP | Pts | GD |
13 | Everton | 37 | 45 | -3 |
14 | Wolves | 37 | 41 | -15 |
15 | West Ham | 37 | 40 | -18 |
16 | Man United | 37 | 39 | -12 |
17 | Tottenham | 37 | 38 | +2 |
Man United make instant move after European blow
Amorim’s side are set to face Aston Villa on the final day at Old Trafford on Sunday (25 May), but the focus already appears to be on next season.
Ratcliffe clearly wants to reduce the number of staff on the payroll immediately ahead of what will be an extremely important summer for the 20-time English champions.
The club employed 1,140 people before the redundancies last summer, with the latest move taking that figure down to around 690 as the INEOS chief continues to streamline the business.
Ratcliffe previously claimed United would have gone “bust by Christmas” if it wasn’t for his cost-cutting measures, which have included charity cuts and halting benefits for ex-players.
