Man United fans are demanding the club re-sign Angel Gomes after his performance for England in the UEFA Nations League victory against Finland.
Two goals from Harry Kane on his 100th appearance saw Lee Carsley record a second 2-0 victory as England boss, but the focus of many rested on the full-debutant.
Gomes, now playing for Lille after leaving United’s academy system, was handed his first England start by Carsley who had worked with him in the Under-21s.
Questions have been asked about the 24-year-old since his time at Old Trafford given his height and slight frame, but he is now proving that is not an issue.
His control of the tempo of the game and ability to be in the right place at the right time in midfield has become an underappreciated asset, while his agility in possession also shone through.
His involvement in Carsley’s squad, and first start for his country, allowed him to show the importance of such a role while also displaying his range of talents.
The midfielder’s contract is set to expire next summer, opening up the possibility of a free transfer as he will be allowed to talk to clubs from January.
Man United fans, among many others, are now calling for their club to make a move for Gomes rather than letting him settle elsewhere.

Gomes left United to join Lille on a free transfer in 2020, having been in the English club’s academy since the age of six.
He made just ten appearances during his time at Old Trafford and made the decision to leave in search of improved playing time – establishing himself as a key player in France.
Now, however, fans are calling for a sensational return after he showed the level of his talent in Carsley’s England side, as many are insisting he would fit in their team perfectly.
