Man United told to pay another £30m to complete Branthwaite deal – sources
Man United are £30million short of Everton’s valuation for Jarrad Branthwaite heading into the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that United are “pushing” to lure Branthwaite to Old Trafford this summer.
The Red Devils are eager to strengthen their defensive department ahead of the 2024-25 season after recording the club’s worst ever Premier League finish last season.
Erik ten Hag’s side conceded 58 goals across their league campaign as United struggled with a defensive injury crisis.
Meanwhile, Branthwaite enjoyed a breakthrough season at Goodison Park with the 21-year-old making 35 league appearances for Everton in a defence that kept 13 clean sheets – the second most in the Premier League.
As revealed by Football Insider, United could face competition from Manchester City, who are also keeping close tabs on Branthwaite ahead of the summer window.
Man United £30m under Everton valuation of Jarrad Branthwaite
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said: “If Branthwaite is to leave Goodison Park this summer, Manchester United are in the box seat to sign him.
“They’ve been pushing to try and lure Branthwaite to Old Trafford as he is a top target for INEOS.
“They see him as a long-term answer to their defensive problems but they’re trying to get him on the cheap.
“They’re looking at around the £40million mark which doesn’t get anywhere near Everton’s valuation of £70million.

“So there’ll be a lot of toing and froing.
“I think Everton are desperate to keep hold of him for another season.“
