Man United told to ‘pay the money’ after ‘big’ update on signing Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips – pundit

Kevin Campbell has told Man United to “pay the money” to sign both Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker insisted “there should be no hesitation” from the Red Devils when it comes to the pair.

According to ESPN (4 February), Manchester United are focusing their attention on signing a centre-midfielder this summer after a quiet January.

Ralf Rangnick’s side are said to be whittling down a list which includes West Ham’s Declan Rice, Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips and RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara.

As shown on Sky Sports (7 February), David Moyes claimed Rice is worth more than £100million.

Both Rice and Phillips have two-and-a-half years remaining on their current contracts.

Campbell claimed the England duo would be “a big upgrade” on Fred and Scott McTominay.

“Just pay it,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Don’t even question it because they are both top, top players. Just go and pay the money, it’s not like they haven’t got it. Two players who are both England internationals. There should be no hesitation. Just go and pay that money.

“That is where the problem is at Manchester United. It is in the midfield.

“I know Fred and McTominay have done a decent job but let’s be honest, Phillips and Rice are a big upgrade.

“If they do that, their engine room looks like a Rolls-Royce. They are two top-quality home-grown players.”
