Man United told to seal deal for David de Gea replacement ‘urgently’ after ‘world-class’ update – pundit

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak would be open to a move to Man United if the club qualify for next season’s Champions League.

That is the view of ex-Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 29-year-old swapping La Liga for the Premier League.

According to Spanish outlet AS (28 September), the Red Devils are keeping close tabs on Oblak’s situation in the Spanish capital.

Erik ten Hag’s side are said to see the Slovenia international as “a luxury replacement” for David de Gea.

De Gea has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford.

When asked by Football Insider if Oblak would be a welcome addition to United’s side, Robinson said: “If De Gea is to leave, they need to look at signing a replacement as a matter of urgency.

“They have to go for Oblak in my opinion. Would he swap Atletico Madrid for Manchester United? I don’t know.

“He will want to play Champions League football. A lot will depend on where United finish this season. If they can offer Champions League football they will be able to attract most players.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, a player like Oblak would be interested if United are back in the Champions League.

“It is only a matter of time before he comes to the Premier League. He is a world-class goalkeeper.”
