Man United told to sign £26m Aaron Wan-Bissaka replacement – pundit

Noel Whelan has backed Man United to sign Inter Milan ace Denzel Dumfries to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Red Devils are in desperate need of an attacking full-back – with the 26-year-old fitting the bill.

According to the Daily Mail (12 June), Inter Milan need to sell to buy this summer and are open to letting a number of players depart – including Netherlands international Dumfries.

The report claims the Nerazzuri will command a fee of €30million (£26million) in order to part with the former PSV Eindhoven star.

Dumfries notched five goals and seven assists in 45 appearances for Inter during the 2021-22 campaign.

Whelan insisted current right-back Wan-Bissaka is critically lacking in “quality and creativity” going forward.

When asked if Dumfries could be everything that Wan-Bissaka isn’t for Man United, he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury:“Yeah, absolutely.

“He’s that attacking full-back that they desperately need.

“Defensively, Wan-Bissaka is very sound – he’s rarely beaten. Going forward, he just lacks that quality and that creativity.

“You need that now as a full-back, it’s expected. You’re box-to-box. Not only are you a defender, you’re a midfielder and a winger as well at times.

“There aren’t enough assists and certainly not enough goals in his game. He very rarely gets involved in terms of numbers on the board.”

Wan-Bissaka has notched just two goals and 10 assists in 126 outings since arriving for a reported £50million in 2019.

The former Crystal Palace man has been linked with a return to Selhurst Park this summer.
