Man United told to sign Christian Eriksen straight away after update

Alex McLeish has told Manchester United to sign Christian Eriksen “in a heartbeat” after reportedly tabling a contract offer.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 30-year-old is the sort of proven Premier League talent Erik ten Hag needs to bring in this summer.

As reported by the Athletic on Tuesday (14 June), Man United have made an offer to sign Eriksen when his contract at Brentford expires at the end of the month.

Brentford are reportedly trying to extend the attacking midfielder’s stay after he signed a short-term deal in January.

McLeish admitted he was not convinced by many of the names linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

As such, he urged United to push for Eriksen’s capture.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “For me, it’s a no-brainer. If they can get Christian, take him in a heartbeat.

“I still feel that United are nickel and diming a little bit. With the manager, there have been some players Man United have been linked with that I think: ‘No’.

“I just cannot see progress for Man United in that respect when I see some of the names linked with them. This is what Ten Hag will find is the most difficult part of his career and life, recruitment.

“If he and the recruitment guys don’t recruit the guys that can take Man United to another level then I’m sorry, it’s going to be the same old, same old. We’ve seen it for the last five, six years, or let me go back even further, since Sir Alex (Ferguson).”

As revealed by Football Insider last month, Tottenham are also interested in signing Eriksen.
