Man United told to transform dressing room after David de Gea reveal – pundit
Man United need to sign “characters” who can transform their dressing room this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker delivered his verdict after David de Gea lambasted his teammates following their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League last week (22 May).
The 31-year-old told BBC Sport, via the Daily Express, that new manager Erik ten Hag needs to recruit good players with “good character”.
Man United finished their campaign down in sixth with 58 points – their lowest ever tally for a Premier League season.
De Gea has been one of the few positives from their dismissal season as he kept eight clean sheets in 38 top-flight appearances.
And Campbell has urged the club’s hierarchy to listen to his advice on transfers.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Like in every dressing room, you do need the characters in the dressing room.
“De Gea knows, he’s been with the characters in there. He’s one of the leaders but when you haven’t got enough it comes out on the pitch, it really does.
“They haven’t had enough selfless players who will do things just for the team. De Gea knows what is needed.
“Signing characters is obviously going to be a key element for Man United.”

De Gea has been at Old Trafford since the summer of 2011 and won the club’s player of the season award four times.
He is under contract at United until the summer of 2023.
In other news, Kieran Maguire has told Man United protesters to choose new targets as a £750million deal is under attack.
