Marcus Rashford’s move to Barcelona could now be in play as the Catalan giants are ready to come in for him this summer.
Ruben Amorim, who is currently under pressure at Man United, has doubled down on his decision to send the England international out on loan during the winter transfer window.
It is unclear exactly what could happen to the 27-year-old forward, who came through the Red Devils’ academy before breaking into the first team back in 2015, but admitted to needing a new challenge.
Having revived his season on loan at Aston Villa since January, Rashford’s season has now been cut short by a hamstring injury, amid ongoing uncertainty over his next move.
The England international has made the decision to wait until later in the summer to discuss moving on from Man United, where he is not believed likely to play again under Amorim.
Barcelona unwilling to reach Man United’s asking price
Now, according to i News (29 April), Barcelona are ready to make Rashford’s dreams “a reality”, but are unwilling to pay the £40million option-to-buy clause that Man United had agreed with Villa in his loan deal.
It is understood that the Nou Camp is Rashford’s preferred destination, so much so that the England international would take a “substantial” pay cut to secure the move.
Sources in Spain insist that Barcelona are aware of United’s restrictive financial situation, which has seen Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo linked with exits to raise funds this summer, and it will affect their approach to negotiations.
Cash is also short at the Camp Nou, but their belief in being able to secure a cut-price deal boosts their hopes in working out a deal with Rashford, as does his desire to join them.

Amorim is in desperate need of selling multiple big-name players in the current squad if he is to sign the right players for his chosen tactics on the pitch ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Funds are extremely limited at Old Trafford, proven by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting measures at Man United, and so a mass exodus will be required to free up money for transfers and wages.

Some supporters are already losing patience with the former Sporting CP figure, with goals yet to flow from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, and the defence often being split apart too easily.
Bruno Fernandes, who has been tipped to leave Man United, is the glue holding everything together currently and should be who Amorim builds the new team around, but it could be a while until those changes are made.
The owners need to stop the revolving door of managers, though, and that means backing Amorim and giving him what he needs to make things work despite the ongoing frustrations at Old Trafford.
