Kieran Maguire tips ‘transfer spend’ to explode at Man United after £42m news via BBC

Man United will use the cash they currently splash out on agents to boost their transfer spend amid new Fifa legislation.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ruling body’s plans to rein in agent power.

BBC Sports reported on Wednesday (15 December) that Fifa will curb third-party profiteering with a cap on agents’ fees.

Intermediaries will only be able to trouser 10 per cent of any transfers they help to engineer, along with three per cent of the player’s salary.

Per the Daily Mail last Saturday (11 December) Paul Pogba’s £89million move from Juventus to United in 2016 earned super agent Mino Raiola an astonishing £41.9m.

The 28-year-old midfielder’s contract expires in a little over six months time and there is a real possibility this season could be his last at Old Trafford.

Maguire claims that the Red Devils will be able to boost their recruitment budget as a result of Fifa’s crackdown on agents’ fees.

“If clubs are recruiting, they already know their total overall spend,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“If less money is going to agents, more is going be going on transfer spend and elsewhere.

“My understanding after talking to agents is that they are going to push back on this.

“Expect more management and consulting fees rather than agents’ fees. Expect higher commission for intellectual property rights for players and so on.

“So the agents will not be poorer from this. They might not get the money directly from the clubs but they’ll still get the overall take that they were planning to generate.

“This looks good in terms of a headline but in practice, I don’t think it will make a lot of difference. Fifa will find it hard to implement.”

Man United

Pogba has featured 13 times for United across all competitions this season.

Those appearances have yielded seven assists, though the Frenchman is yet to score his first goal.
