Man United trio savaged by insider, he’s stunned club have let three better players go
Man United have wasted millions on incoming transfers as a result of the hierarchy’s failings, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that United feel signing new players is the key to all their problems.
Meanwhile, the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay, Dean Henderson and Marcus Rashford have all proven to be more than capable away from the club.
Brown explained that letting these players go is not the issue, but spending “silly money” on signing replacements who are not good enough is a “major issue”
In recent years, United have spent a combined £267.2million on Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Andre Onana and Antony – all of whom have failed to impress since their arrivals.
This comes amid ongoing financial issues at Old Trafford, as Brown told Football Insider that Man United could now sell Kobbie Mainoo to cover for their previous errors.
The record of a number of former Man United players now excelling away from the club will lead to serious questions about their replacements and the money wasted.

Man United transfer failings laid bare in ‘laughable’ verdict
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have come under pressure at Man United lately after a number of cost-cutting exercises including raising ticket prices and staffing cuts.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also spent time as a scout for the likes of Blackburn and Tottenham, insisted that the decision-making at the top of the club is at fault yet again for their waste of money.
“They act as if spending money on new players will solve all their problems,” he told Football Insider.
“The amount of money Man United have wasted on players is laughable. It’s silly money.
“I cannot understand why they let Scott McTominay go for as little as they did, and the same goes for players like Aaron Wan-Bissaka and now Marcus Rashford is being forced out.
“Of course, there are players they moved on who haven’t gone on to excel elsewhere.
“It’s okay making the decision that you want to part ways with a player, but the ones you’re bringing in have got to be better, and all too often they’re not.
“When you look at the likes of Hojlund, Onana, Antony, they’re well-below par.
“And then you look at the amount of money spent on those players when you had better players than them already on the books and decided they weren’t good enough.
“But if you’ve decided they’re not for you, that’s fine, but you need to improve on them.
“That hasn’t been the case, so it’s costing them millions and then they go and sack hard-working members of staff in an attempt to make up for it.
“It’s a major issue and another situation where the decision-making at the top of the club has let them down and serious questions need to be asked.“

Ruben Amorim concerned about Andre Onana performances
Another example of United’s excessive spending and poor long-term decision-making is Onana, who arrived at Old Trafford for £47.2million in 2023.
Brown told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim and his staff are concerned about Onana after a number of disappointing performances and errors this season.
However, given the amount of money spent on his signing with the intention of having the goalkeeper’s position secured for the foreseeable future, they are reluctant to cut their losses.
The United hierarchy are also reluctant to spend a significant fee on a new option between the sticks because it would be seen as an admission that they failed with Onana’s signing.
