Man United v Leicester ‘beggars belief’ as officials ‘staggeringly incompetent’
Man United controversially beat Leicester thanks to a goal that “beggars belief” in terms of poor officiating, according to Richard Keys.
The Red Devils beat the Foxes in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday (7 February) 2-1.
Bobby Reid gave Leicester a surprise lead in the 42nd minute, connecting on to a rebound form a Wilfred Ndidi shot.
Joshua Zirkzee equalised in the 68th minute, as Alejandro Garnacho picked out Rasmus Hojlund, who’s shot bounced back to the Dutchman following a Leicester block, and he poked it in to an open net.
Harry Maguire scored the winner against Leicester in the 93rd minute, but replays showed the England international to be clearly offside, and the officials have been trashed as a result.
The decision drew a strong reaction from Keys, who said: “I was travelling so didn’t see it live but I’ve just watch it back. How can our staggeringly incompetent officials claim to be the best in the world? Maguire was a mile offside. You didn’t need VAR. It beggars belief.”
Man United scrape through with important win over Leicester
Football Insider Verdict
Garnacho’s player of the match performance against Leicester showed the Argentine winger’s value to Amorim, as the Portuguese manager had initially chosen to leave him out during the beginning of his time as United manager.
In fact, it looked at one point that Garnacho would sign for Chelsea in January, but instead, Marcus Rashford signed for Aston Villa, giving the young winger the opportunity to shine in his place.

After a difficult beginning to his time in Manchester, Amorim is slowly starting to put the pieces in place, as United have now won five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
The win against Leicester, whilst unconvincing, was another step in the right direction as the former Sporting CP manager looks to drag United from the doldrums.
Refereeing decisions for Man United the talking point once again
In a tight 1-0 win over Fulham on 26 January, Lisandro Martinez scored the match-winner.
However, Martinez should have been punished against Fulham, for a nasty challenge on Adama Traore, Keith Hackett told Football Insider.
The FA Cup is without VAR until the fourth round, a move that now seems like a massive mistake after Maguire’s goal.
