Man United will accept ‘£50m Alejandro Garnacho offer’
Manchester United would likely accept a £50million offer from Atletico Madrid for Alejandro Garnacho this month.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Premier League giants are facing immediate profit and sustainability (PSR) issues this season.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been looking to cut costs since taking over the footballing operations at Old Trafford in February last year.
Manchester Evenings News reported on 7 January Kobbie Mainoo, 19, is unhappy with the initial terms Man United have offered him for a new contract.
The England international was one of few players previously regarded by the club’s hierarchy as not for sale, with Garnacho, 20, also in that bracket.
But The Times reported on 8 January Atletico Madrid are aware of the Argentina international’s availability after he’s recently fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim.
The Madrid-born winger, who is believed to be valued at around £50million, joined United from the La Liga giants in 2020.
Man United chiefs are open to selling stars in January
Borson insisted Old Trafford chiefs are likely now open to selling any of their stars if their asking price is met.
“I think there are two parts to Man United’s situation,” Borson told Football Insider.
“The first part is they are clearly tight on PSR, and I don’t think there is any question about that. That is an immediate problem for this season, so ideally they would like to bring in some cash by selling a player that’s largely profit.
“I think it’s unlikely they want to sell Mainoo. The ideal scenario would be to sell Rashford, but we know the challenges they have got in doing that.
“I think the other aspect is, if you have a look at Omar Berrada’s approach when he was at Man City, every player had their price.
“City’s message to all players was ‘If you want to leave, get your agent to find you a club and bring us a deal. If it meets our price point, then you can go’.
“Usually it’s very hard for a player to bring a deal that’s at the price point, but I think that’s probably the message United are giving to anybody. Nobody is unsellable.

“I think the combination of the two means the most likely players to leave are young players or ones not in favour. Garnacho and Rashford in particular are prime for a sale.
“If it’s true that Atletico will pay £50million for Garnacho, then I would think United would sell.”
