‘Man United will pay Marcus Rashford until 2028’ after super-agent latest
Barcelona are expected to join the race for Marcus Rashford this summer with Man United ready to get the forward off the wage bill.
Sky Sport.ch journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported via X (5 May) that, rather than pursue a permanent move to Villa Park, Rashford has enlisted agent Pini Zahavi to “facilitate” a transfer to Barcelona this summer.
The England star earns more than £300,000-a-week at Man United, where he is under contract until June 2028.
Aston Villa have the option to buy loanee Rashford £40million but he will need to agree to that move.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed United will “have to” pay Rashford a portion of his wage until the end of his contract.
Man United will have to top up Rashford’s wage after super-agent linkup, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted United will be “jittery” this summer with getting Rashford off the wage bill of utmost importance.
Rashford has notched four goals and six assists in 17 games for Villa before suffering a season-ending injury.
Season | Appearances | Goals |
2024-25 | 41 | 11 |
2023-24 | 43 | 8 |
2022-23 | 56 | 30 |
2021-22 | 32 | 5 |
2020-21 | 57 | 21 |
Wyness insisted he expects interested clubs to submit “low-ball” offers for the forward.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s another headache Man United have got.
“Rashford did a little bit at Villa to show his fitness was okay and that he could play at the top level.
“But his demands will make a transfer very hard.
“His agent will have realised United want to get him off the wage bill. He’ll be thinking – whatever deal I can get with the other club, I can get Man United to top that up.
“That’s the strategy, and Man United will have to do it.
“There won’t be too many clubs in the market for Rashford. I can see Man United getting jittery this summer.
“Everyone knows they are the ones paying the wages right now. If I’m the other club, I’m going to be sending low-ball offers and seeing if I can squeeze Man United.
“They have to get him off the wage bill.”

Major update on Mount’s Man United future
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (7 May) that Amorim is still counting on Man United high earner Mason Mount to have a future at the club.
The 26-year-old has recently returned from a long-term injury layoff and has been ramping up his involvement.
Mount is currently on a contract worth £250,000-a-week or £13million per year – with that deal set to run until June 2028.
