‘Man United will rip up contracts’ of players in ‘brutal’ twist – reaction
In the wake of the decision to axe Dan Ashworth, fans and former player Rio Ferdinand have urged Man United to “rip up contracts” of players who aren’t good enough.
The club revealed on Monday (9 December) that the 53-year-old sporting director would be leaving his position at Old Trafford after just five months in the role where he oversaw a £200million summer spend.
Erik ten Hag also lost his job as United boss during Ashworth’s spell at the 20-time champions, and his early departure has led to question marks over whether the club will be as quick to make decisions about the players.
That is what Ferdinand has called for on the latest episode of his Rio Presents show, where he spoke openly about the situation.
Ferdinand said, “I just hope they’re as his brutal as they have been with the staff that have been there for years and that they’re culling, I hope they’re this brutal with the s**t players that are there.
“If there’s any s**t players that are there, and ones that have either been there too long or the ones that just ain’t good enough, be as brutal as they’ve been.”
Man United supporters want players’ contracts ripped up
Supporters have claimed that “enough is enough” with some of the squad, adding that “at least six players need to go.”
United currently sit 13th in the Premier League table after winning only five of their opening 15 matches, with the squad managing just one victory in the league out of the three games Ruben Amorim has taken charge of.
