Man United working on deal to sign Alphonso Davies – Insider
Man United will push to beat Real Madrid to the signing of Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, according to the club’s former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at United during their most successful period and remains very well-connected at the club, exclusively told Football Insider that the club’s hierarchy are keen to land a big-name player.
This comes following reports that the Red Devils are looking to land a deal to sign the left-back amid stiff competition from Madrid.
Davies, 23, has less than a year remaining on his current deal in Germany and his availability has placed Europe’s top clubs on red alert.
Los Blancos had been considered the favourites to land his signature, but interest from United has grown and they are now expected to rival the European champions.
Since making the move to Munich in 2019, the Canada international has established himself as one of the most recognisable and well-thought-of stars of the game.
His 205 appearances for Bayern at just 23 years old are a testament to his ability, and his potential exit is likely to lead to a scramble for his signature.
The interest from United comes as a result of Luke Shaw’s injury issues, with the 29-year-old yet to feature under Erik ten Hag so far this season.

Brown raised questions about Shaw’s availability and the ever-changing timescale for his return, insisting both United and England have missed him.
The former scout, who also spent a period as Sir Alex Ferguson’s number two and has maintained connections throughout the game, has now claimed that the United hierarchy will be keen to attract a big-name star to the club if they can land a deal.
“I remember when he came to Bayern Munich,” he told Football Insider.
“From what I’ve seen of him, he’s a very exciting player and he’s a top left-back, but you do have to question why Bayern are letting him leave for free.
“Because he’s available for free, I’ve heard United will definitely be among those interested.
“A left-back is on their list of targets and the opportunity to sign a big-name player there is something I’ve been told they’re keen on.
“Luke Shaw is such an influential player when he plays for Man United or England.
“Man United have missed him, but I’m getting fed up of being told he’s back soon and then he never is. I feel so sorry for the lad.

“So it doesn’t surprise me to hear the club are looking for replacements.
“Beating Real Madrid to the deal might prove difficult, but if they want to get it done, I’d expect them to push for it.”
