Man United’s updated stance on permanent Michael Carrick appointment after win vs Arsenal
Man United are not rushing to any conclusions over the future of Michael Carrick despite his terrific start to life in the dugout at Old Trafford.
Carrick’s side beat Arsenal 3-2 last time out, making it two wins in two games for the interim boss following the 2-0 win against Man City last weekend.
However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that nobody is in a rush to decide the manager’s future despite his impressive audition.
The Man United hierarchy are content to oversee a successful spell under Carrick, but are wary of any false dawns as they have seen in the past.
As a result, they are still considering a number of potential candidates with the expectation that a final decision will be made following the end of the season.

Man United to make Michael Carrick decision
Football Insider revealed on 18 January that Carrick could land the permanent Man United job as his position as interim manager puts him in the box seat.
However, any decision about his future will be made closer to the end of the season, and there is no guarantee that his displays will land him the job.
“It’s important Man United don’t get ahead of themselves,” Brown told Football Insider.
“I don’t think anybody expected Michael Carrick to come in and straight away get wins against Man City and Arsenal, but it could just as easily go back the other way.
“The club are aware of that, they’re going going to be rushing into a decision about his future.
“They’re happy at the moment to sit back, let him do this thing and see where it takes them, hopefully he carries on his success and gets them into a good position.
“But they’re not going to go diving off the top board after two games, it would be silly.
“He’s definitely a contender and he’s put a strong case forward already, but it’s a long time until the end of the season and they will wait and see what happens.
“Then we can only hope they make the right decision at the end of it when they’ve assessed all their options and what might be available to them.”
Who will be the next Man United manager?
Brown told Football Insider that Carrick will force Man United into a difficult decision as they may have to make a U-turn on their plans.
However, as things stand, the plan remains to appoint a top-class manager at the end of the season regardless of how well the interim boss does during his spell.
United would ideally want to appoint an “elite” manager amid links to the likes of Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, both of whom have top European pedigree.

Football Insider revealed on 11 January that Man United are lining up a “top-class” manager to become their next permanent boss and are drawing up a shortlist.
While Carrick remains a contender and is certainly in with a chance of landing the job, the need for patience on all sides is being emphasised after the Arsenal result.
