Manager update: This is who will be in charge of Rangers against Inverness – report
By Alex Stevens
Graeme Murty is set to remain in charge of Rangers for their Scottish Premiership fixture against Inverness on Friday night, according to a report.
The Glasgow Evening Times, citing national news agency Press Association, claim the Ibrox club will step up their search for a new manager and director of football in the coming days.
But it is said that “no appointment for either position is expected this week”, meaning caretaker boss Murty will still be in the dugout when Rangers travel to relegation strugglers Inverness on Friday.
The report states that Rangers chiefs have already begun interviewing candidates for the opportunity to replace both former manager Mark Warburton and ex-recruitment chief Frank McParland.
The duo left Ibrox 10 days ago after a week of behind-the-scenes manoeuvrings that ended with Rangers claiming they had accepted the resignations of Warburton, assistant manager David Weir and McParland.
Under-20s coach Murty was appointed caretaker boss but has been unable to halt a wretched run that included another defeat on Sunday, when the side lost 2-1 against Dundee at Dens Park.
The result means Rangers lag six points behind second-placed Aberdeen, as well as a mammoth 30 adrift of runaway leaders and champions elect Celtic.
Rangers chairman Dave King released a statement last week to explain that the club’s target is to finish second in the league this season after accepting that well-resourced Celtic cannot be overhauled.
In other Rangers news, this is the huge sum lost by Mark Warburton after his behind-the-scenes manoeuvrings horribly backfired.
