Manchester City already have Raheem Sterling replacement in their ranks as ‘big’ prediction made – pundit

Kevin Campbell has tipped Phil Foden to have a “big” 2022/23 campaign at Manchester City following Raheem Sterling’s move to Chelsea.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 22-year-old, along with Jack Grealish, could fill the 27-year-old’s boots at the Etihad.

Manchester City confirmed Sterling had completed a move to Chelsea on Wednesday (13 July).

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday (15 July) that Foden is next in line for a new contract at City after the club tied down Rodri and Riyad Mahrez.

Campbell insisted talk of a new deal for the England international is “great” news.

He suggested the City academy product is set for increased responsibility with Sterling gone.

Campbell told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s great to hear of the new deal. The thing is he could play different positions. He’s not stuck in one position.

“With the likes of Sterling obviously leaving, his influence on the squad will grow even more. It’s always a big season when you’re going into a new season.

“Losing Sterling and Sterling’s threat obviously puts the onus on Jack Grealish and Foden. I think Foden has won his trophies there and working under Pep, he knows what it takes, he knows what it needs.

“I just think Phil Foden’s going to get better and better every season. It’s a big season for him, definitely, regardless of the contract.”

Foden made 45 appearances across all competitions for City during the 2021/22 campaign.
