Tottenham have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Manchester City teenager Jadon Sancho after he failed to turn up to training on multiple occasions, according to a report.
The Telegraph claims that the 17-year-old has plunged his future with the Citizens into doubt due to his recent actions, which came about after he was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the USA.
It is understood that Sancho was expected to join up with the squad on their tour of the States, but he was left at home after he made it clear that he wanted to leave the Etihad due to a lack of first-team opportunities.
The Telegraph claims that Sancho is now close to exiting Tottenham’s Premier League rivals City after his recent actions.
The report adds that Man City are eager to keep hold of the exciting attacker and have offered him a lucrative professional contract, but he is said to be attracting attention from Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Arsenal as well as Spurs.
The two Bundesliga sides are believed to be confident of landing the attack-minded winger and that they will only have to splash around £180,000 in compensation fees, which the Telegraph says would be a lot higher for Spurs and Arsenal.
Sancho has never featured for the Manchester City senior squad, and it looks as though that could remain the case if he gets his wish and leaves this summer.
Football Insider Verdict
Sancho is definitely making the right choice in looking to leave City in pursuit of first-team football, but if he is skipping training then he is going about it the wrong way. Any potential buyers may be put off by the teenager’s lack of professionalism and it would have perhaps been a lot more impressive if he continued his job even if he didn’t want to be there. Spurs should worry that he could do it to them in the future, especially if they are forced to stump up a big compensation fee. The move seems to have a lot less risk for Dortmund or Leipzig, but they could also be having second thoughts after this latest development.
