‘Manchester City set to make Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis exit decisions’

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are set to make their decision on the futures of both Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis.

Both the defender and the attacking midfielder have featured in Man City’s Club World Cup campaign, while the North West club have already navigated their way to the last 16 with two consecutive wins.

Echeverri made a shock debut for Guardiola’s men in the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace last month, and went on to score in a 6-0 win over Al Ain on Monday, 23 June.

Meanwhile, the Etihad Stadium club have already signed the likes of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders as Guardiola looks to guide Manchester City back into Premier League title contention.

Manchester City could allow Echeverri and Reis loan moves

After returning from his loan spell with former club River Plate in January, Echeverri has made just three appearances for Man City.

Similarly, Reis has made just four outings for the North West outfit since joining from Palmeiras last January.

The duo’s Club World Cup exploits suggest that they are set for a long-term future at the Etihad Stadium, but according to The Athletic, [24 June], both 19-year-olds could be deployed on loan ahead of next season.

The report adds that Reis’ future could rest on other transfer activity in the Manchester City backline.

Football Insider verdict

Both the former River Plate star and the ex-Palmeiras man endured a lack of game time under Guardiola last season, with Echeverri failing to make a Premier League appearance.

The duo have played themselves into first-team contention this summer, but there is a serious gulf in class between Man City’s Club World Cup opponents and the clubs they will be playing against in next season’s Premier League.

Echeverri should be proud of scoring his maiden goal for Guardiola’s men against Al Ain on Monday, but the Etihad Stadium side’s 6-0 victory shows the lack of quality of their UAE-based opponents.

Meanwhile, as Man City strive to beat likely challengers Liverpool and Arsenal to the Premier League title next season, Echeverri and Reis could once again find themselves with little first-team opportunities.

The former River Plate man could see himself fall behind fellow summer signing Cherki in Guardiola’s pecking order after the France international impressed with former club Lyon.
