Man City tipped to complete title-winning signing in January 'that wins them the title' after Guardiola claim - pundit
Frank McAvennie would be “shocked” if Manchester City didn’t sign a new striker in January.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Blues would have beaten Liverpool if they had a “proper striker”.
City drew 2-2 at Liverpool last weekend and twice came from behind to secure the result.
Pep Guardiola’s side dominated for large periods of the game but Phil Foden often found himself crossing into a Liverpool box bereft of blue shirts.
Gabriel Jesus started the game but often drifted to the right-wing and McAvennie insists he is not the man to lead the City attack.
McAvennie insists it is clear City need a striker to win the league and backed Guardiola to get his man in January.

“Listen, we all know they need a striker,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“During the Liverpool game, that was evident. If they had a top striker in there, they would have won that game.
“Foden was playing some excellent passes forward and the only player there was De Bruyne, he wasn’t making the run sometimes.
“Jesus isn’t that player, he’s not a proper striker. They needed someone like Kane to be there.
“That wins them the title, we all said it in the summer didn’t we? I would be shocked, Pep will demand a striker in January.
“It doesn’t even have to be Kane, someone who can finish and has that striker’s sense will score tonnes.”
City sit third in the Premier League table after seven games.
They face Burnley after the international break.
