Manchester United in-form attacker to be omitted from squad for Liverpool clash

By North-west correspondent Alex Stevens

Adnan Januzaj served a reminder of his talent with a double for Manchester United Under-21s on Monday – but he will not be in the senior squad for Thursday’s showdown against Liverpool.

The Belgian made another appearance for the development team in the semi-finals of the Manchester Senior Cup and struck twice in the 4-0 win over Oldham to show manager Louis van Gaal he hasn’t lost his touch.

But Januzaj will not be promoted to the senior team for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Jurgen Klopp’s team because he is cup-tied.

The 21-year-old played in Europe while on loan at German club Borussia Dortmund earlier in the season before he returned to Old Trafford early as the temporary switch turned sour.

He has subsequently made six appearances for United’s youth team and had just two brief run-outs as a substitute for Van Gaal’s side.

Januzaj has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford compared to his breakthrough season in 2013-14 when he started 15 league matches under ex-manager David Moyes.
