Man United star Bruno Fernandes responds to Cunha’s emotional announcement
Bruno Fernandes and summer signing Matheus Cunha are set to play key roles for Manchester United next season.
Attacking midfielder Fernandes was the talisman for an otherwise poor Red Devils side last term, notching 19 goals and 18 assists across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Cunha was an outstanding player for Wolves last campaign, scoring 15 goals and producing six assists in 38 Premier League appearances.
Fernandes and Cunha are now tasked with helping Manchester United land a significantly better Premier League finish than the 15th-place finish they managed in 2024/25.

Fernandes reacts as Manchester United teammate Cunha reveals birth of daughter
Cunha’s goalscoring exploits last season helped Wolves finish level on points with his new club in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, the Brazil international took to Instagram on Monday, 21 July, to reveal the birth of his daughter: “Hello world, I’m Liz. And we are 4 now.
“I am very blessed to have you. Thanks God for everything.”
Cunha’s message received a like from Manchester United fan favourite Fernandes, who also commented with a red heart emoji and a raised hands emoji.
Ruben Amorim needs Cunha to perform
Football Insider verdict
Since inheriting the managerial reins from Erik ten Hag last November, Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has not enjoyed a successful spell in the Old Trafford dugout.
Matheus Cunha stats | Premier League 2024/25 |
Appearances | 33 |
Goals | 15 |
Assists | 6 |
The 40-year-old steered the North West giants to just 17 victories in 42 attempts last season, while also enduring 17 defeats, including a loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
But Amorim has been given the benefit of the doubt by the Man United hierarchy so far, as he did not oversee last summer’s transfer window.
Meanwhile, the former Sporting boss can reshape his squad this summer, so his performances will be more heavily scrutinised next season.
Consequently, Amorim needs high-profile summer additions such as Cunha to deliver expectations, or he could find himself facing the sack.
Cunha’s Wolves performances suggest that he can excel alongside the likes of Fernandes, while Manchester United are closing in on Bryan Mbeumo.
Mbeumo shone in Brentford colours last term, and Amorim will need the Cameroon international to continue his form in front of goal after moving to the North West.
