Adnan Januzaj is in contention to make his Manchester United comeback at Liverpool on Sunday – just a week after returning to the club.
United manager Louis van Gaal revealed on Friday that he is considering using the winger at Anfield following the end of his disastrous loan spell at Borussia Dortmund.
Januzaj had been set to feature for United’s Under-21 side against Reading on Monday night before Van Gaal had a change of heart and decided to concentrate on building up the Belgian’s fitness in training.
The Dutchman has now hinted that Januzaj is ready to play for the senior team for the first time in five months.
“We have taken a risk and we have built him up in our way of training sessions,” said Van Gaal at his media conference on Friday afternoon. “Now he can be on the bench or he shall play in the second team [Under-21s].”
The likelihood is that the Belgian will be included in the senior squad at Anfield even though he’s not match fit after last playing on 10 December.
The 20-year-old had a difficult time at Dortmund, where he made 12 appearances for the Bundesliga club, only three of which were starts. His six league outings were all as a substitute and he has not featured since a Europa League defeat by PAOK Salonika on 10 December.
