Manchester United player ratings v Everton: Midfield big hitter struggles

COMMENT By Harvey Byrne

Football Insider rates the Manchester United players in their 1-1 draw against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

David de Gea 8 – Had little to do in the first half, but was vital in the second half, only a penalty was able to beat him.

Antonio Valencia 7 – Made some good forwards runs down the right side of the pitch and dealt with Kevin Mirallas well.

Phil Jones 6 – Not up to the high standards of playing in a United defence, but did a solid job at the back against Romelu Lukaku.

Marcus Rojo 4 – The Argentina international showed that he was not a centre-back. Fortunate not to have been sent off in the first half for a lunge on Idrissa Gueye and was also beaten on numerous occasions.

Matteo Darmian 6 – Did his job well going backwards, but could have provided more for United in attack.

Michael Carrick 6 – Mr. Dependable once again in midfield, broke up a number of Everton attacks without pulling up trees.

Ander Herrera 5 – Poor display from the midfielder, who is usually good at going forward. His passing was off against the Toffees and he struggled to impose himself on the match.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 8 – The Armenia international was United’s best player going forward. Caused a number of problems for the Everton defence, and he should have had a goal, or an assist for his efforts.

Paul Pogba 5 – The £89million world-record signing is still struggling to live up to his hefty price tag and a number of attacks broke down through him. The midfield big hitter needs to up his game.

Anthony Martial 6 – Struggled to see much of the ball, but when he did his final ball was usually mixed.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 6 – A world-class finish for the goal from the Sweden international. However, his static play didn’t help United going forward and he was one reason why the club have left Goodison Park with just one point.
