Manchester United player ratings v Leicester: Senior player is 5/10

By Amir Mir

Football Insider rates the Manchester United players out of ten after their 3-0 win over Leicester on Sunday afternoon.

David de Gea 7 – The Spaniard didn’t have much to do in the game but his calmness behind the defence is still valuable to the team.

Antonio Valencia 8 – The versatile player is one of the most underrated players in the league. He was solid in defence and also was a threat in attack. Valencia also showed composure to find Ibrahimovic for United’s second goal.

Eric Bailly 8 – Powerful defensive display from the centre-back who dealt with any danger in the air and on the ground. Looks a great prospect.

Chris Smalling 8 – Both Smalling and Bailly ensured that the likes of Jamie Vardy, Ahmed Musa and Shinji Okazaki were kept quiet. Another pleasing aspect of Smalling’s game was his passing out from the back.

Marcus Rojo 5 – At times he was reckless, but Rojo wasn’t spectacular in defence nor attack as Mourinho opted to play him at left-back. In truth, the senior player should not be played on the left-hand side of the defence, therefore, it is no surprise that he was taken off during the break.

Ander Herrera 7 – Another solid display from Herrera who can play the one touch football, but also show strength and fight to win the ball back for his team.

Paul Pogba 7 – The Frenchman was reckless at times and gave away silly fouls, but it was good to see him show fight to try and win the ball back. Showed great technique in controlling the ball and passing it around during his 90 minutes.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 9 – A brilliant one touch player is Mkhirarayan and his movement in the middle of the park was just too good for the opposition. He kept the ball moving and linked up well with his teammates.

Juan Mata 8 – As soon as Mata settled into the game he produced a brilliant display and linked up well with the likes of Mkhitaryan throughout the game. He took his goal well straight after the break.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Had a quiet opening, like many of his teammates but when the opportunity arose for him to attack then Foxes defence, his pace and directness did cause problems.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 7 – Even at the age of, 35, Ibrahimovic is showing why he is one of the best players in the league. He was in the right place, at the right time, when he scored United’s second goal before the break, which killed the game off.
